When you experience a qualifying life event, you may elect, change or terminate benefits. The changes you are allowed to make must be consistent with your life event and be made within 31 days of the event.
Examples of qualifying life events:
- Marriage, divorce, or legal separation
- Birth, legal adoption, or placement for adoption
- Death of spouse or dependent child
- Spouse or dependent loses coverage or gains eligibility for coverage elsewhere
- You or your dependent become eligible for Medicare/Medicaid or the State’s health insurance program
Documented proof of your qualified life event change must be presented to Human Resources prior to approval of your life event change request.
